Childrens Party Ideas

November 20, 2008

Childrens Parties Children grow up so fast that every memory must be made to be cherished. Your child will only have a few birthdays where the energy of youth and excitement of celebration come together to form something magic.
Your child's birthday party should be a time of togetherness for family and friends with all attention centered on the little one of the hour, your child. When planning a children's party there are certain guidelines and considerations that must be taken into account.

The Time of Year

If your child's birthday falls in the winter months, you should consider an ice skating party. Look into booking a local rink exclusively for the use of your group to celebrate your child's birthday.
  • Invitations should reflect winter and winter fun without taking the focus away from the holiday of your child's birthday. Do not buy Christmas invitations! This is your child's day, not Santa's. (The exception being if your child is totally enthralled with Santa of course!)
  • Decorations should be simple to set up and take down if you are letting an ice rink for the party. Keep in mind that you will only have a limited amount of time to set up and clean up for your group.
  • Make sure there are plenty of bandages on hand for scrapes and cuts from the ice!
  • Food should be made to reflect the season: warm hot chocolate and yummy hot sandwiches should accompany your birthday cake.
  • Look for party favors with an appropriate theme for the season: snowflakes and ice skates are great ideas!
If your child's birthday falls in the warm months of summer, pool parties are a wonderful fun option that the birthday boy or girl and their guests can equally enjoy.
  • Invitations should reflect the nautical theme of your party and remind guests to bring proper swim apparel.
  • Decorations can be simple. A hawaiian lua theme with leis, grass skirts, and tiki poles will create a great ambience for the little ones.
  • When planning a pool party, make sure you have everything arranged for the safety of the children. There should be plenty of attentive chaperones, life vests for little ones, someone present who is certified in cpr, and an emergency lifesaver ring.
  • Food should be seasonal and fun. Grilled burgers and crisps are an easy and well received lunch for your party. Top it off with fresh sliced melon and of course, an ice-cream birthday cake, and you have it set!
  • Look for party favors with a nautical or Hawaiian theme so your guests can take home a little of the party with them: pencils, erasers, bubbles, and toy boats are great ideas.

Your Child's Current Obsession

Girls may be into any number of various princesses du jour. When planning your party, consider the theme of a ball.
  • Invitations should have a royal flare. Consider something along the lines of the look of traditional wedding invitations. Proclaim the ball in honor of your very own little princess.
  • Decorations should be all girl. Break out the pink, the jewels, and the tiaras!
  • Those tiaras should accompany miniature wands to increase the magic at each place setting. No other favors (except maybe bubbles) should be necessary.
  • Food should be as dainty as the little princesses who are present. Finger sandwiches and delicate hors d'oeuvres with small glasses of sparkling punch will really set the mood.
Boys are usually easily amused with anything pertaining to the military and camouflage. Stage a "soldier training camp" for your little guy's party and enlist all of his friends and family to join the force!
  • Invitations should look official and proclaim the opening of the training camp and your child's need of assistance in order to keep enemy forces at bay.
  • Decorations can reflect a camouflage theme. Greens and browns should abound!
  • For party favors try miniature guns or squirt guns, these may keep the kids entertained for the entire party!
  • Food should be quick and fun because little boys do not hold their interest on any one thing for long: think pizza, crisps, and cake.
  • Activities can be target practice with Nerf guns, keeping balloons aloft with toy swords, or anything in keeping with the theme of the occasion.
